[Chodosh] Updates from the Guide to Chodosh

CAUTION ON MATZOS FOR PESACH

Last year we noted that spring wheat flour is being added to winter wheat
flour in the production of some hand matzos. At that time we were informed
that all the added spring wheat has been from stored spring wheat to make
sure that the matzos remains Yoshon. However, in some cases this year some
hand matzos bakeries have not been able to obtain Yoshon spring wheat for
this purpose. Therefore, some hand matzos this year may be Chodosh. The
Guide to Chodosh will not survey all the bakeries to ascertain which will
be Yoshon and which will not. Do not contact the Guide for information
about this. Instead, call the mashgiach of your specific matzo bakery.

*Page 22*. Has a paragraph incorrectly held over from earlier years
regarding all matzos using only winter wheat. In fact, as noted above,
matzos and items using matzo meal need to be individually checked to make
sure that they are Yoshon. The new Guide does have a listing of such items
that have been checked for this.



*CORRECTIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE FULL GUIDE TO CHODOSH*

The full Guide for the season was published on 10 Dec 17. The following are
updates to this Guide.

*Section 4.1 Cakes, cookies and crackers*

Ostreicher cookies are all Yoshon. Their name was left out of the index.

*Section 7.1 Barley*

Unger’s Barley is Yoshon, category א. The index incorrectly listed this as
category ד.

*Section 8.1 Breadfast cereals*

Malt-O-Meal cereals. The wheat is always winter wheat and is Yoshon. The
oats may be Chodosh starting with a packing date of Oct 15 ’17.

Nature Valley Granola bars the revised Chodosh date on the package is Sept
8 ’18.
