The O-U has confirmed that barley listed in the ingredients (barley grain,
not barley malt) used in General Mills cereals is Yoshon if packaged up to
the end of October. This applies also to Multi Grain Cheerios, which
contains barley. Therefore the revised guidelines recommended by the O-U
for Cheerios cereals are as follows: "Wheat" and "wheat starch" in the
ingredients are not Chodosh. If the ingredients list WHEAT GERM then the
cereal may be Chodosh starting with a date on the package of Aug 16 '13. If
the ingredients do not include wheat germ, but do include oats or barley,
then the Chodosh date on the package is Nov 7 '13. These guidelines apply
to all cereal packages with the O-U symbol, when they are sold under the
General Mills label. For cereals under the Nestle label, such as those sold
in Israel, these guidelines only apply if "General Mills, Minneapolis, MN"
appears on the package, in addition to the O-U symbol.
