Chodosh Bulletin Nov 14 ‘12
The Preliminary Guide to Chodosh, printed edition was mailed out to paid
subscribers living in the USA within the past week. The email edition was
modified somewhat from the version you received if you received it after
our initial announcement. The most important of those changes related to
General Mills cereals. Please download the latest version. (This latest
version does not contain the changes listed below.) Note that the
sefer.orgsite that sends out the email version of the Guide reports
that about 6% of
the requests are being rejected by the computer system, even when following
the revised guidelines given below. If you do not receive any response in a
short time, please try again. The reason for this 6% failure rate in not
understood.
To download the new publication, this year the procedure must be somewhat
different from the earlier years. You will not get any response if you send
a blank message as in the past. You must include a meaningful message in
the “subject” field and a few meaningful words in the body of the message.
No human will read those words. However it will prevent the spam filter of
the sefer.org site from blocking the message you sent.
Therefore, to get this version of the Guide send an email to
chodosh at sefer.org. Write a few meaningful words as the subject and as the
message. You should get the Guide back almost immediately. If you do not,
check your own spam filter to make sure it was not held up on your
receiving end.
This version of the Guide is only available by email (free of charge) or in
printed form mailed by US mail to paid subscribers. It will not be sold by
local distributors in printed form. To pay for the printed version (again,
the email version is free of charge) please call 845-356-9348 and record
your credit card number and full address and phone number. The reason for
this change is explained at the beginning of the Preliminary Guide.
COORECTIONS AND ADDITIONS TO THE PRELIMINARY ISSUE OF THE GUIDE TO CHODOSH
Section 8.1, page 18. General Mills Chodosh date for wheat germ should be
Nov 7 ’13 (not ’14). Multi-grain Cheerios contains whole grain barley. Even
though the wheat is Yoshon and the oats have a date of Nov 7 ’13, Chodosh
date is earlier for Multigrain Cheerios due to the barley. That date is Aug
22 ’13.
Quaker cereals. The “beis” section of the listing is accurate according to
the O-U. The “daled” section has not been fully updated.
Lieber’s cookies and crackers without whole wheat flour or oats are Yoshon.
All Meal Mart, including Mon Cuisine and airline foods are Yoshon.
Eden: barley, all breaded items including cutlets and onion rings, all
pasta made in Turkey are Yoshon even without Yoshon label. All items with
label, such as egg noodles are also Yoshon.
Eden oatmeal and farina are Not Yoshon.
