*CHODOSH SEASON STARTING DATES*
* *
The oats harvest has begun. As a result, we are able to provide a
Chodosh starting date for oats. Namely any oats items _packed_ on or
after *_Jul 25_* we will assume are Chodosh. This is a packing date.
However, if no packing codes are known, it may be assumed that oats
items purchased up to Aug 15 are still Yoshon.
We will provide similar Chodosh dates for spring wheat and barley once
we receive word that the harvest of these crops have begun. We estimate
that this will be within 1-2 weeks.
It is recommended that people start purchasing items that they want to
store as Yoshon for the upcoming winter. These items should be stored in
a worm-free environment such as a refrigerator or freezer.

*ESTIMATES OF % CHODOSH FOR THE FORTHCOMING SEASON*
* *
The U. S. Department of Agriculture reports that the amount of grain
left over from last year (Yoshon) is the lowest in 10 years. This is
reflected in the numbers given below. The following is the estimate of
the percent of Chodosh in the relevant crops for the upcoming 07-08 season:
Spring wheat (breads, challehs, bagels, pizza, etc)=98%
Durum Spring wheat (noodles, pasta)=97%
Oats=61%
Barley=92%
