_Freshly baked products from local bakeries, pizza shops and restaurants
may be Chodosh starting Aug 10 in the Midwest USA and Aug 24 elsewhere._

If you look at the table of Chodosh cutoff dates that we issued on Jul
30, reproduced below, you will note that oats products that have been
purchased after Aug 16 may be Chodosh. In addition, wheat and barley
products purchased after Aug 31 may also be Chodosh. If you purchase
packaged items after these dates you should check the package codes to
make sure that oats items were packed prior to Jul 26 and wheat and
barley items before Aug 9.

*UPDATED CHODOSH SEASON STARTING DATES*

* *

In the table below we summarize the cutoff dates recommended by the
Guide to Chodosh, based on US Government supplied harvest data.. The
“Packing date” indicates that all packaged goods with dating codes that
were before that date should be Yoshon. Starting with the “Packing date”
and later, they may be Chodosh. The “Purchase date” is the first date
starting which we feel it is no longer safe to purchase the foods
without checking for dating codes. We also give the first recommended
date to stop purchasing freshly baked items produced at the local
bakeries. There are two dates given. The earlier one is for the mid West
such as Chicago, Cleveland and Detroit. The later date is for the
remainder of the USA. The dates for freshly baked bakery products may
still change. The others are expected to remain the recommended dates
for the upcoming Chodosh season.

It is recommended that people start purchasing items that they want to
store as Yoshon for the upcoming winter. These items should be stored in
a worm-free environment such as a refrigerator or freezer.

      *MAJOR UPGRADE OF THE CHODOSH HOT LINE*

This year we have upgraded our Chodosh Hot Line service, for the first
time in about 15-20 years. _The new phone number to call has changed to
_*_718-305-5133_*_._ For the sake of continuity, we arranged to minimize
changes from the previous Hot Line. Therefore, the caller may not
immediately note any significant changes. However, the new system has
the following major advantages

· When you call, you will never get a busy signal (up to 24 callers can
use the Hot Line at one time! The old Hot Line had only one incoming
line leading to the complaints that the line is almost always busy.)

· You will be able to control the playback of the recorded messages
including pausing, skipping forward and backward. Press the # key for
instructions on how to control the playback.

· If you note the date and time that you called in your question, you
will be able to rapidly skip forward and backward to locate the answer
to your question without having to listen to all of the answers recorded
for others in which you may not have any interest.

We do not anticipate any problems with the new Hot Line system. However,
we will keep the old Hot Line around as a backup for the near future. In
case you find that the new system is not functioning please try the old
number, 845-356-5743.

*ESTIMATES OF % CHODOSH FOR THE FORTHCOMING SEASON*

* *

The U. S. Department of Agriculture reposts that the amount of grain
left over from last year (Yoshon) is the lowest in 10 years. This is
reflected in the numbers given below. The following is the estimate of
the percent of Chodosh in the relevant crops for the upcoming 07-08 season:

Spring wheat (breads, challehs, bagels, pizza, etc)=98%

Durum Spring wheat (noodles, pasta)=97%

Oats=61%

Barley=92%
