CHODOSH BULLETIN AS OF 5 Sept 05
RECOMMENDED CHODOSH CUTOFF DATES
The Chodosh season started much earlier than usual this year, due to the
early harvest. The following are the recommended Chodosh problem dates for
the various foods of interest.
Freshly baked products from local bakeries such as breads, chalehs, rolls,
etc., may be Chodosh if purchased from non-Yoshon bakeries as of August 22
in the eastern US and most of the rest of the US. In the Midwest to
Chodosh date for bakery products was August 15.
Packaged goods made from spring wheat, except for noodles and pasta, may be
Chodosh from the packing date of August 15, and by the purchase date of
September 6.
Pasta and noodles may be Chodosh from a packing date of August 21 and a
purchase date at the store of September 15.
All barley products, other than barley malt, may be Chodosh from a packing
date of September 15, and a purchase date of October 6. Barley malt should
not be a problem until January of next year.
The oats in cereals and cookies and other foods may be Chodosh from a
packing date of August 20, and a purchase date of September 11. This does
not include Quaker oats whose date maybe earlier. It also does not include
General Mills cereals such as Cheerios whose Chodosh dates are usually
October or later. We do not yet have any information on Quaker or General
Mills oats.
These are tentative dates and may be the revised as more information
becomes available.

WHEN TO EXPECT THE GUIDE TO CHODOSH
We recognize that, especially due to the early start of the Chodosh season,
it would be desirable to publish the Guide to Chodosh earlier than
usual. However we have not been able to get pertinent and reliable
information earlier than in other years. This is due to the fact that many
people were away on vacation. It is also due to the fact that many
manufacturers were caught by surprise by the early harvest dates. As a
result, due to circumstances beyond our control, we do not expect to be
able to get the Guide completed before approximately the third week of
September. We urge everyone to keep up-to-date on new developments either
through the telephone Hot Line (845-356-5743), or the e-mail bulletins, or
via the BBS system that allows you to access our computer without going on
to the Internet. We apologize for any inconvenience that this publication
delay causes.
