BULLETIN FROM THE GUIDE TO CHODOSH

25 Feb05

The printed version of the 3rd and final issue of the Guide to Chodosh for
this season is now back from the printer. The local distributors and
individuals who ordered these printed issues should receive them in the
near future.

As in the past, the Guide is also available in PDF form by email. In the
past, you had two options to get the email version. Of these only one is
ready at this time. That is, if you send a blank email message to:
chodosh at moruda.com you will get the Guide in return. In the past some
people were not able get a response from this moruda site. I will send out
an other notice when the other site for email is also ready.

You can also get the PDF version on your computer, without E mail, by using
your computer modem to dial into our BBS. The instructions for this are
given at the end of this message.

The introductory part of the new Guide is reproduced below.

MALT REVIEW

The malt problem is discussed in detail in Section 3.16 below. Please
review that material. In particular, note that when dating codes are not
known, we estimated that items purchased up to Mar. 15 should have Yoshon
malt. (If codes are known, items containing malt may be Chodosh if packed
on Jan 15 05 or later.) That means that we recommend that you should not
purchase items with malt, barley malt or malted barley in the ingredients
after Mar. 15. This year that pesach falls so late on the secular calendar,
this is particularly pertinent.

GUIDE CHANGES

With the second issue of this years Guide, we had added a new index for
your convenience. This is a subject index which should allow you to quickly
find in the Guide the locations of different categories of items. See the
back of this Guide. We also made an other change as the result of a
suggestion called in to the Hot Line. We printed on the top of each index
page the type of index contained on that page. We hope you find these
changes useful. On the other hand, in this issue, we have removed the Index
by Categoriesthat we had provided over the last few years. We feel that it
was of limited use. Those who are interested in finding product divided by
hashgocho categories (Ð, Ñ, Ò, Ó, ×) can just turn to each section. For
example, the section on cereals will list all the Ð category cereals
grouped together first, followed by all of the Ñ category, etc. If any of
you find that the removed index was important to them, please let us know
why by calling the Hot Line.

We have also been reprinting the Chodosh Bulletins published by the Kashrus
organizations of Toronto and Montreal in Canada. Starting with this issue,
we are not including these bulletins any longer. Instead, you are urged to
contact the respective issuing organizations directly for the latest
versions of these bulletins.
