BULLETIN FROM THE GUIDE TO CHODOSH
28 Oct 04
YOUR HELP IS REQUESTED
The Pillsbury flour brand name has changed owners several times since the
Pillsbury Company sold the flour business. The most recent change of owners
took place this past June 04. I am having difficulty finding out where the
Pillsbury brand whole wheat grocery flour is being made and the package
code. In view of these changes, I would also like to recheck the
information on other Pillsbury grocery flours, such as the all purpose and
the bread flours. Anyone who has any of these bags of flour could help me
by forwarding to me the following information from the bag of each type of
flour:
* The full UPC (bar) code
* Any product codeprinted on the bag
* Full dating code
* The kashrus hashgocho, if any, on the bag
I am also trying to find out about Miki (spelling?) Sesame Teriyaki Sauce.
If you could tell me how to spell the name and the kashrus hashgocho, it
would help.
Thank you
ADDITIONS AND CHANGES TO THE GUIDE
Tradition Soups code has changed. The new code for the probable Chodosh
date of Aug 20 is 2334 (233=day of the year, 4=year.) However, the company
plans soon to revert to the code that is in the Guide, month and year 2
years after packing.
The Baker baked products are still not recommended as Yoshon.
Old City Café frozen pizza products are Yoshon under the hashgocho of the O-U.
Postum beverage: The date on the package is 3 years after packing. The
probable Chodosh code is Aug 20 07.
Gefen: All pasta except tricolor will be Yoshon regardless of codes at
least up to Nov 25 04 purchase date. Gefen cup soups are probably Chodosh
at this time.
Oronoque Pie Crust code has changed. The probable Chodosh date of Aug 20
has the code of M9 4 233 (M9=not important, 4=year, 233=day of the year.)
Arrowhead Mills spelt is Yoshon.
Landau (Landlev Corp) whole wheat pasta is Yoshon to pesach. Also Yoshon
are whole wheat pretzels and spelt pretzels.
Mishpacha barley is probably Chodosh at this time.

Pillsbury flour code has changed. The code on the all purpose grocery flour
is 18 months after packing. This gives the Chodosh date for mill A
of March 1 06A. For the grocery bread flour from this mill the code is 12
months after packing, giving Sept 1 05A. These flours from mill E are both
Yoshon.
Barilla pasta packages have a best by use date. However, the code in the
Guide is still being used on the package and should be used for Chodosh
purposes.
Beechnut baby cereals in boxes, the code has changed. The code on the
package is 2 years after packing. For ingredients containing wheat, the
probable Chodosh code is Aug 20 06. For cereals containing oats but no
wheat, the code is Sept 28 06. For those that contain barley but no wheat
or oats, the code is Oct 1 06.
Scottos Fat Free Biscotti and other cookies are Yoshon under the hashgocho
of the Kof K.
Wan Ja Shan aged soy sauce is Yoshon. The Guide misspelled this item on
page 32.
Kemach Bunch of Krunch is a new cereal. Its Chodosh code is Oct 15 05 (1
year after packing). Flat bread all Yoshon at least to a purchase date of
Oct 31. Bulk spaghetti, elbow and elbow macaroni in 20 pound packages have
a Chodosh code Oct 18 06 (2 year code).
In the table of Chodosh dates for General Mills, the last date, malt for
372 days is off by one year. It should have stated Jan 22, 06.
Healthy Delight Sufflet may be Chodosh at this time according to the Star K.
Landau whole wheat pasta is Yoshon at least until the purchase date of Dec
15 04.
